The National intervention centre for handling emergency calls - how does it operate?

All calls to the emergency number 113 are processed by the National intervention centre (Centre d'intervention national - CIN) for the whole of Luxembourg. This centre operates 24/7. As well as handling 113 calls, the CIN provides support for regional units.

During the conversation between the caller and the calltaker, the information provided is entered directly into a computer system for managing calls and dispatching police patrols. The information is sent to the appropriate police station or department to ensure an appropriate reaction. If it involves a national unit, several police regions or major events, the CIN itself handles the matter.

Calls are managed according to the level of urgency.

All calls to 113 are recorded and retained for a period of 6 months. After this time, they are deleted.
