Police release regarding the new year's eve festivities 2021

Control of the measures in the fight against Covid-19

Within the context of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Police would like to remind you that new measures have been in force since Saturday 25 December 2021 and that there will be no exceptions for New Year's Eve.

In this regard, the Police will continue to control the compliance with the legal provisions and will focus in particular on the following three aspects: the application of the Covid-Check regime in restaurants and bars, the respect of the closing time of these establishments set at 23.00 hours as well as gatherings.

Controls will be carried out in a targeted manner as well as in the context of ordinary or on-call missions.

Announced demonstration

The police will closely monitor the announced New Year's Eve demonstration and will be present with an adequate presence in order to ensure the proper conduct and supervision of the event, to regulate traffic if necessary and to intervene if necessary. In this respect, we remind you that, as on previous weekends, a demonstration zone extends from the "Champ du Glacis" to the "Place de l'Europe".

All offences observed by the Police will be prosecuted, if necessary after the event itself, following analyses and investigations.

Reinforced presence for New Year's Eve

Within the framework of crime prevention and general surveillance of the territory, the Police, as in previous years, will increase its manpower for the night of December 31st - which is traditionally one of the busiest nights of the year - and will react to calls from the population according to its availability and priorities.

The presence will therefore be reinforced throughout the country in order to be able to intervene as quickly as possible in case of need.

Do not block the 113 emergency number

As stated above, the night of December 31 is one of the busiest nights of the year. Therefore, the police ask citizens to only call the emergency number 113 in case of emergency, threat or danger.

In case of non-urgent matters, the Police recommend that people contact a police station of their choice in the coming days to file a complaint or to use the e-Police station, which allows a number of procedures to be carried out online. Fireworks

The launching of fireworks is regulated by the municipal police regulations. It is therefore advisable to consult your local authority in advance to find out whether or not it is permitted to launch fireworks in public.

In any case, the Police recommend that people should consult their neighbours in advance, if necessary, and that they should only buy pyrotechnic products that have the CE mark and that they should strictly observe the safety precautions.
