AMBER Alert

AmberAlert is a nationwide alert system used when the life of an abducted or missing minor is in imminent danger.

When is an Amber Alert issued?

The Grand-Ducal Police, by decision of the Public Prosecutor, is responsible for issuing AMBER Alerts, for which it has very strict criteria:

  • The minor has (almost certainly) been abducted by one or more unknown persons, or the minor has disappeared and his or her life is in imminent danger;
  • The victim is under 18;
  • There is enough information about the victim to increase the chances of finding the minor following an AMBER Alert, such as a photo, information about the kidnapper or about the vehicle used during the abduction;
  • AMBER Alerts are issued as soon as possible after the abduction or disappearance of the minor.

What resources are available for an AMBER Alert?

When an AMBER Alert is issued, all the means available to the Police are used to spread the message. In addition to publication in the press and on the Police website and lu-alert.lu, all the functions of the national alert system LU-Alert are also used. In addition, social networks are being used to spread the message. This enables as many people as possible to be reached.

  • LU-Alert

With the mobile application LU-Alert, you can follow all the alerts and information issued by the public authorities via the national alert and information system for the population (LU-Alert), including AMBER Alerts. This application allows messages to be broadcast on the lu-alert.lu website, as an SMS message, as a Cell Broadcast and as a Push message in the mobile application.

Download the application free of charge from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

  • National and international media

As soon as an Amber Alert is issued, the information is immediately transmitted to national and international media channels.

  • Facebook and X

AMBER Alerts are also shared on the Police's Facebook and X accounts.

  • Police website and lu-alert-lu

In addition to the means already mentioned, the message will also be published on the homepage of the Police website police.lu as well as on the main page of the lu-alert.lu platform. All the information relating to the advertisement will be published there, as well as any photos.
