The Police psychological service (Service psychologique) has a wide variety of roles. Its services are essentially there for police officers and Police units. These include:
- Psychological assessment during recruitment of Police personnel;
- Basic training and continuous training for personnel on a psychological level: conflict management, communication with the general pulbic, victim support, personnel management;
- psychological counselling for personnel regarding work, personal or family problems;
- psychological treatment for personnel following potentially traumatic incidents: serious accidents, disasters, hostage situations, exchanges of gunfire;
- assistance for police departments for special or large-scale events;
- expert psychological assessments during investigations;
- scientific research on psychology as applied to policing;
- improving the working environment for police officers and the Police service.
