When an item is found and handed in to a police station, it is kept there for 8 days.
After this time, the item is transferred to the National found property service (Service national des objets trouvés - SNOT), one of whose tasks is to manage all property handed in to the Police.
SNOT is responsible for storing, and returning or disposing of found property.
