Scams targeting older people

Scams targeting older people – but not only them – have increased significantly in recent years. Criminals approach their victims by phone, email or even at their front door. Their aim is to get the victim to hand over money or valuables, or to provide personal data so that money can be transferred at a later date.

As a rule, criminals seek to destabilise their victims, convincing them by trying to isolate them and/or put them under pressure.

They often pretend to be representatives of a public body such as the police, the judicial authorities, a municipal worker or a bank employee, or claim to be relatives of the victim.

In this section, you will find some scams that specifically target older people.
